What is the International Police Association

The largest international police association, with more than 300,000 members in 62 countries, founded in England in 1950 by Sergeant Arthur Troop.

Holds consultative status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) and the Council of Europe. Committed to the principles set out in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights adopted by the United Nations in 1948.

The only worldwide organisation of police officers, without distinction of rank, language, race or religion, and without trade-union or political aims. The link between all police organisations and a bridge to the public. A place where police officers felt the need to seek friendship – sincere, selfless, real friendship – even beyond national borders. A place where its members build and serve the idea of friendship without borders.

An international professional association governed by the Permanent Executive Bureau (PEB), whose members are elected every three years by the IPA World Congress and come from different countries. It is supported by five six-member international commissions: Internal, Cultural, Social, Professional and United Nations Affairs.
